Well part of this week will be more proteins from the freezer and grains from the pantry. This week is also H’s birthday (on Friday) and we are having family over for dinner on Thurs….we will be celebrating H’s birthday as well as Auntie P’s birthday (her birthday is on Tues). The weather is supposed to cool off this week too, so I’m looking forward to doing some baking. I have several friends that I really want to bless with some homemade yumminess this week Plus I REALLY want to get in the habit of baking again. My family deserves it!

This week I am using meats and proteins from the pantry and freezer. The produce will come from my CSA basket which is delivered on Monday, and I am determined to bake this week! I haven’t baked breads since the spring, and I am going to bake bread this week even though it will be in the high 90s and low 100s all week. I have sourdough starter going right now, and am going to do play with that this week, as well as making our standard whole wheat and multi-grain breads. I’ll do breads as needed this week, not scheduling a specific day for baking like I used to…..my days are too full to do that. I’d rather bake when I really want to
So, here’s the menu plan for this week:
Sunday, 9/20
soups leftover from the youth parent lunch meeting today (I was SOOO glad to have leftovers! )

Monday, 9/21

A special thank you to Laura at Organizing Junkie for hosting this every week. If you’d like to see other menus or post your own, please click on the banner above to get to Laura’s blog.
I know, I know, the last time I posted my menu plan on my blog was week 3, but I have had a menu plan the past 2 weeks, just didn’t find the time on Sunday/Monday/Tuesday to post it…..and by the time I had the time later in the week both weeks to post it, I just didn’t see the point. I know, I know, bad me I actually have the next 2 weeks planned, but since I’m only doing the shopping for one week today, I’m only going to post one week (and that will allow for any carryover meals next week also). I’m still using the Menus4moms menus (I use the free version), and LOVING them…..every single recipe that we have used has been very good!!! These ladies definitely know what they are doing in their recipe development and recipe tasting. I am beginning to substitute my own homemade ingredients in place of some of their convenience ingredients (such as canned cream of _________ soups, etc). Also, if you are looking for the menus4moms menu that coordinates with mine, I am using menus from the archives, so I will make sure to link the recipes for you
Sunday, 2/1/09 SUPER BOWL SUNDAY:
pulled pork sandwiches using kalua pork recipe that I posted a few weeks ago

I’m really liking this menu planning consistently thing! It’s working really well for me I do have a couple of carry-over meals this week from the past two weeks. There have been two meals the past 2 weeks that I’ve switched up at the last minute, but I still have all the ingredients for them, so I’m going to make them this week. My menus still continue to come mostly from Menus4moms (I use the free version, and am following the recipes exactly right now to give everyone a fair assessment of their service. I am not following the current week’s menu….been using the archives and using some past menus, but I”m trying to get to where I can use the current week’s menu….only 2 weeks behind now :)). My reason for wanting to follow a service rather than making my own menus is a) to help me get back into a habit with minimal effort, so that I’ll follow through; b) to be able to give a fair and accurate assessment when I’m recommending the service to others around me; c) I’m just not creative right now, and if it were up to me, we’d be eating grilled chicken, grilled fish, and spaghetti every night! Here’s this week’s menu
Monday, 1/12/09:
Easy Cheeseburger Pie (I LOVE this recipe….haven’t made it in years, and can’t wait to have it tonight!)
cottage cheese & pineapple
green salad
Tuesday, 1/13/09 (first night of new Bible study….woo hoo!!!!!):
Here is this week’s menu. Most my of our meals this week are coming from Menus4moms (I use the free version). The groceries for this week’s meals came to right around $120 (for a family of 6) which included most of our breakfasts, but not our lunches, as I already had lunch stuff in the house. The total cost does not include the tortillas or any bread items as I will be making those from scratch (and already have the ingredients in the house for all of that).
One of my goals for this coming year is to plan my meals every single week and to follow that menu plan as closely as possible. Most of my menus (at least for now) will be coming from Menus4moms (I use the free version, but there are some more extensive paid versions, and they are less expensive and use more common ingredients than other paid menu planning email subscriptions).
veggie (I used broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots steamed together…YUMMMYYYYYY)
salad
dessert
Tuesday, 12/30/08
You bake pizza
Wednesday, 12/31/08 (New Years Eve dinner and party with some friends)
Potato Soup
chili cheese dip
veggie platter with ranch
hummus with flour tortilla chips
chips & salsa & guacamole dip
Thursday, 1/1/09
SNACK DAY–this is a tradition we’ve had for several years where I make a bunch of different appetizers and snack-y foods, and we just eat that stuff all day, play games, watch the football & hockey games and parade….just a really fun family day!
This year I made:
deviled eggs
ham slices
shrimp cocktails
taquitos (these were frozen/premade)
hummus & flour tortilla chips
7 layer dip with chips
veggie tray with ranch dressing
olives
potato skins with cheddar cheese, bacon and sour cream
Well, last week’s menu plan kind of fell apart. I never found the time to go to the grocery store to pick up the groceries that I needed, so I used up what I had here at home. SO, much of this week’s menu looks like last week’s.
